Star Trek Discoveryhas officially been renewed for a 4th season. Additionally, it has been revealed when the series will go into production to start work on season 4. The news comes just one day after season 3 premiered. The show’s stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Doug Jones, along with executive producers/co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, made the announcement in a short video for the fans this afternoon. Production is all set to start on November 2nd, with the cast and crew following strict safety protocols since the public health crisis is still currently effecting the world.
Discoveryis the flagship series for theStar Trekfranchise and CBS. Alex Kurtzman previously revealed that he had enough ideas to keepnew Star Trek materialcoming until 2027, which has a lot of fans excited for the future. In addition toDiscovery, CBS also has Patrick Stewart’sPicardand upcoming animated seriesLower Decks. ADiscoveryspinoff titledSection 31is also in development withDiscoveryactress Michelle Yeoh attached to star.
DiscoverystarsSonequa Martin-Green as Commander Michael Burnham, who is a human raised by Vulcans. She also serves aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. The supporting cast includes Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou, Doug Jones as Saru, Anthony Rapp as Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Tilly, and Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber. The CBS ALL Access series goes deep into the roots ofStar Trekand has been praised by hardcore fans. It has also been able to avoid some of the trappings of otherStar Trekstories by jumping nearly 1,000 years into the future in season 2. “It has been very freeing,“Discoveryexecutive producer and co-showrunner Michelle Paradise said when discussing the time jump. “The world that they come into is very, very different than the one that they left.”
As for fans who are worried thatDiscoverywill ditch everything that came before in seasons 1 and 2, Michelle Paradise says they have nothing to worry about. “We’re not just sticking things in a blender and tossing them all over the place,” she said. “We’ve been really thoughtful about it.” Season 3 of the hit series starts right where season 2 left off, as fans saw yesterday, with David Ajaya’s Cleveland “Book” Booker character leading the way into the future. “Cleveland Bookeris a character that’s going to bring levity, fun and a different spontaneous dynamic to the franchise, which we may not have had before,” Ajala said.
