TheStar Warsfranchise is known for its focus on Jedi, a group of people who can wield The Force and brandishcool weapons called lightsabers. While the Jedi were once an organized group that played a large role in The Clone Wars, since theexecution of Order 66, the Jedi Order fell and the surviving Jedi were forced to go into exile tohide from the Inquisitors. Two such Jedi who suffered through this transition wereObi-Wan KenobiandAhsoka Tano.
Obi-Wan and Ahsoka served the Jedi Order until the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. They met at the start of the Clone Wars, as seen inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, and while Ahsoka’s relationship with Anakin was subject to a great deal of praise for their natural chemistry, one relationship that is often overlooked is that between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. It’s not uncommon to see the two together throughoutThe Clone Wars, and when they do work together, there is a strong bond there that can’t be seen anywhere else. Here’s why Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka’s relationship is so underrated.

Obi-Wan Served as a Surrogate Father to Ahsoka
While some would argue that Anakin served as more of a father to Ahsoka than Obi-Wan, the relationship between Ahsoka and Anakin is more that of a brother-sister relationship than a father-daughter. Thanks to Obi-Wan’s age and his close bond with Anakin, he serves as a surrogate father to both Anakin and Ahsoka, sharing his wisdom and knowledge with them when they need it most. Obi-Wan also took on the responsibility of scolding Ahsoka when she didn’t follow orders, while Anakin would praise her for her rebellion against the Jedi Council, a behavior more suitable to a brother than really for a father. Together, Obi-Wan and Anakin serve as a sort-of pseudo-family for Ahsoka, as outlined byLooper, as she grows up in the Jedi Order.

Ahsoka Strikes Balance Between Obi-Wan and Anakin
Everyone would agree that Anakin and Obi-Wan would butt heads due to their very different styles of strategizing. While Obi-Wan prefers to be tactful and have everything planned out, Anakin enjoys “winging it” and acting on his gut to achieve the best outcome. Lucasfilm hit the jackpot in bringing in Ahsoka as she acts as a buffer between Obi-Wan and Anakin, showing each of them the value in both methods. Ahsoka also manages to de-escalate arguments between Obi-Wan and Anakin without taking sides, which is not an easy task to do. It’s arguable that Ahsoka’s job as a Padawan was to help Obi-Wan and Anakin to work together without bickering. Ahsoka’s own personal style of battle is also reminiscent of both Obi-Wan and Anakin’s tactics, the best of each of their strengths.
Trauma Bond Over Anakin’s Fall to the Dark Side
One mutual friend of them both was Anakin Skywalker, who was Obi-Wan’s Padawan and Ahsoka’s Master. Both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan were arguably two of the closest people to Anakin before his fall to the Dark Side, turning him into Sith Lord Darth Vader. When Anakin was seduced by the Dark Side thanks to Darth Sidious, both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were forced to face the trauma of losing someone near and dear to their heart, watching him become the very evil he once promised to fight. This shared trauma has led Obi-Wan and Ahsoka to establish a special kind of bond no one else has as they both lost someone to the Dark Side and must accept that he is no longer the Anakin Skywalker that they once knew.

Ahsoka Was Meant to Be Obi-Wan’s Padawan
A little known fact about Ahsoka was that she was originally meant to serve as Obi-Wan’s second Padawan and not Anakin’s. When Ahsoka first encounters Obi-Wan and Anakin inThe Clone Wars, Obi-Wan introduces himself as her Master, but she is quick to correct him and announces that it is Anakin that she has been assigned to. Thanks to the careful planning of Master Yoda, as outlined byScreen Rant, Anakin takes on Ahsoka and, though exceedingly reluctant at first, Anakin eventually warms up to her and takes on the responsibility of training her in the Jedi Arts. That said, it would have been interesting to see how different Ahsoka would have turned out had she been trained by Master Kenobi.
