It looks likeGeorge R. R. Martinwill have his wish come true thanks toThe Tonight ShowhostStephen Colbert.THRreports that Colbert’s production company, Spartina, is partnering up with Skybound Entertainment and Vincent Newman Entertainment to develop a TV series adaptation of Roger Zelazny’sThe Chronicles of Ambernovel series. While Zelazny passed away in 2005, Martin — a longtime fan who was personally friends with the late author — has been pleading for someone in Hollywood to take an interest in the story and give it the small screen treatment.
“Most of all, I want Roger Zelazny’sNine Princes in Amber,“Martin previously said on his blogof which fantasy series he most wants to see created next. “I will never understand why Corwin and his siblings are not starring in their own show. And hey, if epic fantasy continues to do well, maybe we will finally get that. A boy can dream.”

Enter Colbert, who cited Martin’s interest in a statement confirming his involvement with the planned TV series adaptation ofThe Chronicles of Amber.
“George R.R. Martin and I have similar dreams,” Colbert said. “I’ve carried the story of Corwin in my head for over 40 years, and I’m thrilled to partner with Skybound and Vincent Newman to bring these worlds to life. All roads lead to Amber, and I’m happy to be walking them.”

The Chronicles of Amber Is Getting Adapted
Currently, the plan is to find a writer to help bring the adaptation to life for the small screen. Presumably, the series will follow a similar storyline to the book series. The Chronicles of Amberfirst began in 1970 with the original installment,Nine Princes in Amber. Five full books have since been released in that series, culminating with 1991’sPrince of Chaos. After Zelazny died, John Gregory Betancourt would later pen a series of follow-up books dubbed theDawn of Amberseries.
The story is set in two contrasting worlds known as Amber and Chaos, along with the shadow worlds that exist between the two. Earth happens to lie within these shadows, created by the tension between the opposing forces of Amber and Chaos. At the center of the story is Corwin, a man who awakens on Earth with no memory who discovers that he’s from the royal family of Amber and has the ability to travel through different dimensions.
It’s not yet clear whereThe Chronicles of Amberwill land, but it’s noted in the THR report that Spartina has a first-look deal with CBS Studios. No release date has been set and it’s unclear when filming will begin.
