Stranger ThingstookNetflixto a new level when its first season debuted on the streamer in 2016. The service was already on the rise from previous original productions likeOrange Is the New Black(2013). Still, something about the science fiction horror series made Netflix the destination for quality, new shows, and movies. The Duffer Brothers, who createdStranger Things, have played a vital role in keeping the streamer neck-to-neck with competitors like Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and Paramount. However, according toThe Hollywood Reporter, the brothers are reportedly in talks to leave Netflix for Paramount, and they’re eyeing a deal that could be too good to pass up.

The Duffer Brothers, whose first names are Matt and Ross, could snag an overall deal withParamount, and, according to THR, it would reunite them with Cindy Holland, former head of originals at Netflix, who is now Chair of Direct-to-Consumer for Paramount, overseeing Paramount+ and Pluto TV. The Paramount deal will also include theatrical releases.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but if the deal is completed, it would be seen as a huge flex for Paramount, as Holland recently revealed that Paramount+ will increase its investments in shows, but streaming movies aren’t a priority. “Made for streaming movies are not a priority for me,” she said during a recent press conference. “To get the required engagement, we need more content. We’re going to invest in content.”

‘Stranger Things’ Will End This Year After Almost a Decade

For now, theStranger Thingscreators are preparing for the series' highly anticipated andlong-awaited fifth and final season. It will be released in three parts on Netflix: Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on December 25, and the finale on December 31. In 2022, the brothers talked about the finale and gave a little insight into what fans can expect. According to them,Season 5 will connect to the past seasons. “For Season 5, we’re pulling from a lot of those big Season 2 ideas… A lot of our big ending stuff has pulled from stuff that we thought was going to be in Season 2,” Ross Duffer revealed.

One difference betweenthe upcoming seasonand past seasons is their writing process. They rewrote some things and then pitched the revised version to Netflix. “We reread the document. We’re like, ‘That’s cool, that’s cool. That could be a lot better. That could be a lot better. Even the ending is a little bit different [now]. A lot of the big ideas are the same, but the stuff that happens within, it’s very different,” Matt added.
