Just a few weeks after rumoredplot detailsfor Warner Bros.‘Man of Steel 2leaked, it has essentially been confirmed that this project is happening. While we’ll have to wait and see if the plot details hold up,Henry Cavill’s new manager,Dany Garcia, the manager and ex-wife of global superstarDwayne Johnson, confirmed that development is under way for the “Superman standalone” project, which is believed to beMan of Steel 2. However, it isn’t known when this project may actually start production.
At the end ofNewsweek’s extensive profile onDany Garcia, who helped her ex-husbandDwayne Johnsonbecome the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, she confirmed that a newSuperman movieis happening. No plot details were revealed, and it isn’t known if there are filmmakers attached at this point. Here’s whatDany Garciahad to say below.
“Henryhas a big appetite. We’ve been in a five-month period of time where he’s re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company Promethean], he’s filming [Justice League] now, he’s in development for theSuperman standalone… he’s beginning to expand that world. It’s beautifully teed up. In a year from now, or two years from now, he’s going to be a force globally.”
You may recall that, back in April,Henry Cavillrevealed he definitely wants to makeMan of Steel 2, but that would depend on howBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicefared at the box office. While the movie did perform well, earning $872.6 million, it was still trashed by most critics. Still, it would make sense to develop anotherSupermanmovie since the studio is already working on a standaloneBatmanmovie.
Last year there was talk thatMan of Steel 2was beingindefinitely delayed, but it seems that isn’t the case anymore.Ben Affleckis on board to star in, co-write and direct his own stand aloneBatmanmovie, but we don’t know who is writing or directingMan of Steel 2. We also reported last year thatMad Max Fury Roaddirector turned down this sequel, but that was never confirmed.
