The Boyswas officially renewed for a fourth season on Friday, August 06, 2025 – merely one week after season 3 premiered on Prime Video. What’s the holdup? The ongoing SAG (Screen Actors Guild) / AFTRA and WGA (Writers' Guild of America) strike has been compounded by more than a thousand other vital workers also joining in the strike. Thus it’s easy to understand why season four hasn’t burst out into the spotlight yet.

Considering all of this, it shouldn’t surprise any fans thatThe Boysseason 4 doesn’t even have a release date as of the time of writing. Nonetheless, fans are clamoring, enthusiasts are impatient, and viewers are ready for their dose of all-too-human, all-too-fallible, and all-too-realistic “superheroes.” But will that day ever come?

The Prodigal Show Returns

Luckily for superhero satire enthusiasts,The Boysseason 4 will not be the final season of the hit series! Eric Kripke (executive producer/showrunner best known for creatingSupernatural) confirmed ongoing plans for more seasons ofThe Boysto begin tentative filming in early 2024. Yet before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s take a look at the challenges facing production besides a once-in-a-century entertainment industry strike.

Season 4 ofThe Boyscompleted filming back in April of this year and is currently going through the effects processing typical of post-production. How long will it take for the complete and final episodes to premiere? Well, Amazon has taken into consideration that due to the franchise’s prior release routine, it’s more than likely that enthusiasts may have to wait for somewhere around a year after the premiere of Season 3 to witness the next episodes in the storyline.

Who Are ‘The Boys’, Exactly?

Meet themost unstable superheroeson the planet! Based on Garth Ennis’ comic book,The Boysis a hyper-surreal love letter to a corporate America run by unethical mercenaries. Known as the “Seven,” this extremely critical look at superhero teams (including the Justice League and the Avengers) portrays corporate vigilantism in a much more realistic and dark light.

Antony Starr plays Homelander, a Superman-meets-Captain America stand-in with a psychotic, obsessive personality disorder. Dominique McElligott is Queen Maeve, a selfish, self-centered Wonder Woman / Xena hybrid who eventually develops a conscious. Chace Crawford as The Deep is an Aquaman / Namor-type character introduced for occasional (extremely awkward) comedic moments.

Jessie T. Usher as A-Train is the obligatory Flash / Quicksilver-style speedster. Erin Moriarty plays Starlight, a confused superheroine thrown into the spotlight and forced to help uncover a plot perpetrated by the “Seven” that could bring down the entire organization.

But forget the heroes. Forget the “Seven”. The real star of the show isKarl Urban as Billy Butcher, a (mostly) non-powered human with a thirst for revenge against “capes” and other superpowered foes he considers unworthy. While the mysterious leader of the titularThe Boyshas his enigmatic reasons for wanting to take down the “Seven,” he’s aided by a handful of like-minded citizens – one of which is a victim of A-Train (his girlfriend having been accidentally vaporized by the speedster).

Expect the Unexpected!

Now, while the episode count for season 4 hasn’t been announced officially yet, previous seasons ofThe Boystypically consisted of 8-10 episodes, each running for approximately 45-60 minutes. So, it’s likely thatThe Boysseason 4 will consist of this similar 8 to 10-episode (each running 45 to 60 minutes) structure.

What will unfold over the upcoming series? As season 3 showed Homelander’s grip on the “Seven” faltering, so did his grip on his reality. With Homelander going insane, it was left toThe Boys, a group of anti-Supe vigilantes led by Billy, to put an end to Homelander’s reign of terror.

However, season 3 of Prime Video’s best-superpowered TV series left enthusiasts with a great deal of unanswered questions. What’s next? As the ending of season 3 showed, Victoria Neuman had been elected Vice President of the United States, allowing Homelander totake over as CEO of Vaught.

With this precarious finale, it’s unknown exactly how much damage Victoria could wreak with her superpowers alongside her governmental reach. This is a terrifying prospect, but one that inevitably leads toward a climactic clash betweenThe Boysand the “Seven.”

In a recent tweet (or ‘X’ message? Twit?), Kripke wrote that season 4 ofThe Boyswould only be released after the ongoing WGA strike was over. That’s the good news. The bad news is thatThe Boysseason 4 has completed filming, at least, but any reshoots would be impossible because of the 2023 Actor Strike, and if this strike last longer than the writer strike – fans shouldn’t be surprised ifThe Boysrelease is pushed back even further. As Mother Milk has said in the series, “Good things come to those who wait.”
