WithJason Momoanow locked in to playEric Dravenin the long-delayed reboot ofThe Crow, Relativity Media is eyeing a production start date for this coming January. The studio, which is rebounding from its bankruptcy proceedings, doesn’t have a release date set at this time. However, if they can get production started on time this January, it will mark the end of a string of struggles for this project, which has been in various stages of development and/or pre-production for the past six years.

ThisCrowreboot first came to light back in February 2010, when filmmakerStephen Norrington(Blade) came aboard to write the script and direct for producerEdward Pressman.Mark Wahlbergwas being eyed to star, butStephen Norringtonleft the project a few months later.Juan Carlos Fresnadilloand starBradley Cooperwere later attached, followed by directorF. Javier Gutierrezand starLuke Evans, beforeCorin Hardycame aboard in December 2014, althoughLuke Evansended up leaving a month later.

Jack Huston(Ben-Hur) came aboard to star as Eric Draven last year, withJessica Brown Findlay, best known from her work onDownton Abbey, signing on to play Eric’s fiancee, Shelly. While production was supposed to begin this spring, Relativity’s bankruptcy issues delayed the project even further, withJack Hustoneventually parting ways.Corin Hardywas even fired by Relativity in March, leading to producerEdward R. Pressmanfiling a lawsuit to get Relativity removed from the project after they fired the director. It seems all has been worked out, withCorin Hardyback at the helm andJason Momoaset to star.

We still don’t know for sure ifJessica Brown Findlayis still attached to play Shelly, or if she dropped out duringRelativity’s bankruptcytroubles. The script was written byAlex Tse(Watchmen) andJesse Wigutow(Tron 3), which is believed to be much more faithful to the original comic book byJames O’Barr, than the 1994 adaptation, which was directed byAlex Proyas. If production is starting in January, which was first reported byThe Wrap, then we should be hearing more about the cast coming together soon.

InThe Crow, the night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar to complete his macabre mission.

Relativity hasn’t confirmed the production schedule for thisCrow rebootquite yet. This news does come just hours after we reported thatJason Momoawill start filming Warner Bros.‘Aquamanin the summer of 2017, in Australia and at London’s Leavesden Studios.Jason Momoamay be shooting bothThe CrowandAquamanback-to-back, with no break in between, but that all depends exactly whenAquamanstarts rolling.
