The Flashon The CW its speeding towards its conclusion, set to end with its ninth and final season. For showrunner and executive producerEric Wallace, it’s the end of an era, but that doesn’t mean he wants to move on from DC adaptations. In fact, he’s already eyeingSwamp Thingas the project he’d love to be a part of next after garnering acclaim with his work onThe Flash, perhaps hoping that will help put him in the running.
Speaking about the DCU withTVLine, Wallace commented on the separate movie version ofThe Flashthat’s coming to theaters this summer. While the film follows Ezra Miller’s verison of Barry Allen, Wallace says in the interview he’ll still be “the first person in line” to buy a ticket, loving “all things Flash.” But once his TV series reaches its end this year, Wallace says he hopes to get involved with theSwamp Thingmovie that was recently announcedby James Gunn and Peter Safran. From the interview:

“I’m the world’s biggest Swamp Thing fanatic, so without question the fact that they’re going to do another Swamp Thing movie with a big budget.Ohhhh! I was literally like, ‘Pleasecall me.Pleasecall me. I would love to write on that. Let me help you.’ I am not only a Swamp Thing fanatic, but I know a thing or two about character, and writing.”

Swamp Thing Gets Rebooted for the DCU
There’s not a lot that’s yet been revealed aboutSwamp Thing, but Gunn and Safran have described the reboot as a film that will “investigate the dark origins” of the character. But while this is going to be a much darker film compared to the other movies announced for the DCU, the idea is to still have this Swamp Thing crossing over with the other DC characters, with Gunn comparing this “mashup quality” to seeing Rocket Raccoon and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor rubbing shoulders in theAvengersfilms.
“This is a much more horrific film, but we’ll still have Swamp Thing interact with the other characters,” Gunn has said.
TheSwamp Thingmovie does not yet have a premiere date, and it’s not yet clear when production will start, but James Mangold (Logan) is rumored to be in talks for directing. As forThe Flash, the ninth and final season of the TV show debuts on Feb. 8, while the movie starring Ezra Miller hits theaters on July 09, 2025. The first trailer for the film will be released during the Super Bowl.
