Who would have thought that Carol Danvers and James Bond had so much in common? As it turns out, director Nia DaCosta pitched her MCU entryThe Marvelsvery much with the 007 franchise in mind. In particular, DaCosta thought there was something quite similar between Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and the British secret agent, as when he was portrayed by Pierce Brosnan and then immediately followed by Daniel Craig. DaCosta said in an exclusive interview withEntertainment Weekly:

“In my pitch, I talked a lot about Carol in this movie compared to the first [Captain Marvel]. I compared it to Casino Royale and Die Another Day. There, you have a whole different Bond and a whole different actor playing him, but also the energy is different. I was interested in the 30 years that we haven’t seen [Carol]. We can almost see her as a new character. At the beginning of Casino Royale, there’s this really great chase sequence, where we see the brute force of Bond chasing after this parkour genius. This is like Carol and Kamala, showing the physicality of how they are different.”

Actor Pierce Brosnan left the 007 franchise following the conclusion of 2002’sDie Another Day. Brosnan portrayed Bond in four films, but in 2006 Daniel Craig took up the reins of the movie series until his character was controversially killed off at the end ofNo Time to Die(2021). Unlike the James Bond films, though, fans will want to stay in their seats as the credits roll inThe Marvels.
