A new trailer has been released for season 2 ofThe Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. After the series was renewed for a second season, it was reported shortly thereafter that original star Emilio Estevez would not be coming back for season 2. Losing a lead star meant that a void needed to be filled for the new season, which was the cue for Josh Duhamel to step in as the replacement. As seen in the new trailer, which you can watch below, Duhamel plays a coach that will be attempting to lead his youth hockey team to victory, despite the challenges.

The official synopsis for season 2 ofThe Mighty Ducks: Game Changersis as follows:

Mighty Ducks Game Changers

After winning back the Mighty Ducks team name last year, our squad-with-heart and their coach Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) take to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Colin Cole (Josh Duhamel). It’s a place for kids to get excellent at hockey — without school to get in the way. As our Ducks try to survive in this super-competitive environment, they’re faced with the question: Can you win summer?

Along with Duhamel, the series also stars Lauren Graham, Brady Noon, Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Julee Cerda, Luke Islam, Bella Higginbotham, Taegen Burns, Kiefer O’Reilly, and De’Jon Watts. Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith return as showrunners for season 2 and executive produce alongside Graham, Steve Brill, George Heller, Brad Petrigala, Jordan Kerner, and Jon Avnet.

Will Season 2 Suffer Without Emilio Estevez?

It’s never exactly a good thing anytime a lead star exits a television series. While there are exceptions to the rule, such asThe Connersbecoming a hit sitcom after killing off Roseanne Barr’s character, it seems that losing main characters most often puts a big dent in a TV show’s viewership. It can sometimes be hard for viewers to feel motivated to watch a new season if they can’t shake the disappointment in losing an important character. Time will tell how season 2 performs when the new episodes premiere in September.

One thing that could get people to tune back in would be to bring back more originals from the movie series from the 1990s. The first season did bring in several former child stars, now playing the adult versions of their characters. However, there had still been some key favorites that weren’t included, such as Shaun Weiss, Joshua Jackson, and Kenan Thompson. It’s possible that some or all of these stars could appear in season 2 and that Disney has been saving this for a surprise.
