The OfficestarAngela Kinsey, who portrays Angela Martin in the show, recently opened up about certain lines she felt uncomfortable saying during production of the series. Angela Martin has been a mainstay of the series since its first episode. Working in accounts, along with Oscar (Oscar Nuñez) and Kevin (Brian Baumgartner), Angela was the most straight-laced employee of Dunder Mifflin, who quickly became a love interest for Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute.

Kinsley recently spoke with her former cast mate, Rainn Wison, on his podcast,Soul Boom. During the discussion, the pair talked about the actress' Christian upbringing, and how it affected her portrayal of a stereotypically “uptight Christian” on the show. Kinsley said there was one scene she couldn’t do because of how it represented her faith, and divulged the conversation she had withThe Office’s co-creator, Greg Daniels, to have it altered.

“There were one or two times in which there would be a joke written for her that I thought was just really stereotypical, maybe one note. I like to think of her as a full, well-rounded person. I do remember I remember there was a particular storyline between Angela and Oscar, where Angela was being super judge-y. I never went up to Greg about any joke, but there was a joke at Oscar’s expense, and I went up to Greg [Daniels] and I was like, ‘I can’t.'”

“I just was like, ‘I don’t feel good about it. I don’t feel good about that. I don’t feel like that’s what Jesus represented to me.”

After discussing the scene with Greg Daniels, Kinsley said that he responded very positively to her criticism.

“And he was like, ‘OK.’ And he heard me, and he took the joke out. And the episode, it was ‘Gay Witch Hunt,’ had so many already. But that’s the one pivotal moment I remember being like, OK, this is feeling like a stereotype and very one note. I feel like she has more depth than that.”
