The news is now official: a second season ofThe Peripheralis happening at Prime Video.Deadlinereports that the sci-fi series has been officially renewed for season 2, though its renewal had been expected after the success of season 1. The executive producers of the show, Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan of Kilter Films, addressed the news in a statement, sharing their excitement about moving this story forward with a second season.
“We are thrilled to continue the journey into Season 2 and delve deeper into the incredible world that Gibson created,” the statement reads. “On behalf of Scott Smith, Vincenzo Natali, and the entire team, we’re grateful to our partners at Amazon and, most of all, to the fans.”

The series is based on the novel of the same name by William Gibson. The TV series adaptation is produced by Amazno Studios and Warner Bros. TV in collaboration with Kilter Films. Nolan and Joy (Westworld) serve as executive producers alongside showrunner and series creator Scott B. Smith (A Simple Plan), director Vincenzo Natali (In the Tall Grass), Athena Wickham (Westworld), and Steven Hoban (In the Tall Grass).
Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, said of the renewal news, “William’s mind-bending story in partnership with the brilliant minds of Scott and Jonathan and Lisa, produced an unforgettable journey for our global audience and we are thrilled with how they embraced the series. Season 2 of The Peripheral Is Now in the Works
Chloë Grace Moretz leads the cast of the series, playing a woman looking for an escape from her current reality by diving deep into the world of VR, heading into a dark future. The show also stars Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Louis Herthum, Katie Leung, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy, and Alex Hernandez.
“I was trying to introduce them to William Gibson,” director Vincenzo Natali told us in aMovieWeb interviewof floating the idea of doing aPeripheralseies to Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, with whom he collaborated with onWestworld. “I so desperately wanted the texture of his writing to be realized on the screen. I feel like there have been William Gibson adaptations in the past, but none of them really successfully captured that. I just love his writing. I think it has a quality that feels so textured, and layered, and complicated, and therefore so real.”
