Earlier this month, Universal Pictures announced a July 29, 2025 release date forThe Purge 3, which will be “expanding upon the explosive universe introduced in the sleeper hits that have earned $200 million at the worldwide box office.“The PurgeandThe Purge: AnarchyfilmmakerJames DeMonacowill be back to write and directThe Purge 3, and, while no story details have been confirmed yet, producersAndrew FormandBradley Fullershot down a recent rumor that the follow-up will actually be a prequel, centering on the first annual Purge. Here’s whatBradley Fullerhad to say in a recent interview withCollider, where he debunked this rumor.
“I read that too about the first night ofThe Purge. We don’t know anything about that. I read that and I haven’t heard that so I’m not sure what that was. The material that we’re considering right now is not the first night ofThe Purge.”
Last year’sThe Purge: Anarchytook in $71 million domestically and over $110 million worldwide, from just a $9 million production budget. While no cast members have been confirmed yet,The Purge: AnarchystarMichael K. Williamssaid in a separate interview withColliderthat both his character, the anti-Purge leader Carmello, andFrank Grillo’s Sergeant will both “come together and go after the real bad guys.” When asked aboutFrank Grillo’s involvement in the sequel,Bradley Fullerwouldn’t confirm whether or not he has been cast, but added he would love to work with him again.
“Listen, we loved working with him and we thought that he was so good in that role and, you know, if it works to have him back we would really be very excited about that.”
