The Walking Deadhas just four episodes left inSeason 6. After the network releasedplot detailsearlier this week, we know that not all of the Alexandrians will make it toSeason 7. Over the course of this past year, we haven’t seen the entire group in one place too often, and last week’sNot Tomorrow Yetmarked the first time we had seenLennie James' Morgan in a few weeks. When we last caught up with Morgan, he was seen building…Something. But it was never quite clear what his DIY project was. Thankfully, Yahoo! TV caught up withGreg Nicotero, who directed the episode and confirmed exactly what Morgan is building.
“Yes. He’s building a cell. The jail cell that they had wasn’t necessarily much of a jail cell. It was like a little room with a little metal gate. I think Morgan is committed to the next time they have somebody in there, if they need to, they’ll attempt to rehabilitate them. He wants to be equipped. It goes back to his story with Eastman. Let’s be honest, Jesus didn’t last very long in that place. It can’t be that secure.”
When we first met theHilltop Colony’s Jesus (Tom Payne) inThe Next World, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) threw him in that makeshift cell, but, asGreg Nicoteromentioned, he managed to escape rather quickly. The episode ended with Jesus showing up in Rick’s bedroom, as he laid naked in bed withMichonne. It isn’t known if Morgan’s cell will be finished by the timeTYhe Walking Deadfinishes this season, but the project is certainly a callback to a story line from last year.
The fourth episode ofThe Walking Dead Season 6,Here’s Not Here, was a flashback that showed how Morgan became such a pacifist. The episode showcased his run-in with Eastman (John Carroll Lynch), who initially kept Morgan in a small cell, although Eastman later revealed that it was never locked. Throughout the course of the episode, Eastman teaches him the ways of t’ai chi and how to properly use a bo staff, as Morgan finally finds peace within.
When Morgan finally came to Alexandria, his newly peaceful ways didn’t sit to well with Rick, and he also had a memorable clash with Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride). It’s clear from the Jesus incident that Alexandria needs a proper jail cell, but will Morgan want to use Eastman’s tactic of keeping it unlocked? Naturally, that might not sit well with the rest of the group, so we’ll have to wait and see how this story unfolds asSeason 6comes to an end. What do you think about Morgan building a jail cell?
