The Witcherauthor Andrzej Sapkowski is a big fan of the new Netflix series. The author has nothing but great things to say about lead actor Henry Cavill’s performance as Geralt. The character is an assassin with magical abilities, which ties into the series as it blurs the lines between good and evil. So far, the response to the show, which debuted late last week, has been nearly all positive from fans of Sapkowski’s work and the video game side of things.

When craftingThe Witchernovels,Andrzej Sapkowskiadmits he borrowed from a lot fairy tales to get everything just right. In doing so, he learned to write his own fairy tales, which were then adapted into the stories. The author states that anything that helped the plot was “welcome.” Now, he’s seeing his characters come to life on the small screen. He had this to say aboutHenry Cavillas Geralt.

“I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance asThe Witcher. He’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn [inThe Lord of the Rings], so Henry gave his toGeralt- and it shall be forever so.”

When asked about how much of the newNetflixoriginal seriesThe Witcherwill follow his source material, Andrzej Sapkowski says, “Not much, I confess. I strongly believe in the freedom of the artist and his artistic expression. I rarely interfere. And very rarely attempt to impose my view on another artist.” This may come as a letdown to some fans, but Sapkowski is confident that fans will enjoy the series too. He explains.

“I shall be happy if the viewers - and readers - take anything away, anything that shall enrich them in some way. Also, I sincerely hope to leave the viewers - and readers - hot. In every sense. Not tepid, not lukewarm.”

Andrzej Sapkowski seems to be referring to all of the nudity inThe Witcher. Social media has been quick to point out that there are a lot of naked wizards on the series and more than a few have commented onHenry Cavill’s Superman-like physique. Whatever the case may be, the author seems to be in tune with why a lot of casual viewers might be tuning into the new series.

WhileThe Witchermight not be taking a lot from the novels, all of the character development in them is present on the screen. When asked about Geralt changing over time, Andrzej Sapkowski notes, “It is complicated. Watch the series. And read the books. The answers are there.” While that sounds like an overly simplified answer, nobody knows the story and the characters better than the author. He has faith in the story moving forward and tying to his source material. The Witcheris now streaming exclusively on Netflix and you can binge watch the entire first season now.
