While Americans celebrated their independence with the 4th of July holiday earlier this month, production was getting under way onThor: Ragnarokat Village Roadshow Studios in Australia. Over the past few weeks, we’ve already seen a number ofset photos, along with a brief video from starChris Hemsworth. As production continues today, the sequel welcomes new cast memberTessa Thompson, who started filming today.
Tessa Thompson, who was confirmed to playValkyriein May, revealed on Instagram that today is her first day onThor: Ragnarok, while sharing fan art of her as Valkyrie with her followers. Very little is known about how the character will be portrayed or how she fits into the story, but hopefully more details surface as production continues in Australia. Here’s whatTessa Thompsonhad to say in her Instagram post, honoring the “Warriors” leading ‘movements’ in the real world.

Tessa Thompsonis joined by a number of other new cast members such asCate Blanchett’s Hela,Jeff Goldblumas The Grandmaster andKarl Urbanas Skurge. They will be joined byThorfranchise starsChris Hemsworth(Thor),Tom Hiddleston(Loki),Idris Elba(Heimdall) andAnthony Hopkins(Odin), along withMark Ruffaloas Hulk. Very little is known about the story, but there have been rumors that both Thor and Hulk go on a “cosmic road trip,” after the villainous Hela teams up with Loki to banish Thor from Asgard. It has also been rumored that Hela destroys Thor’s mighty hammer Mjolnir, with Thor meeting Hulk on a gladiator planet where Hulk is the current champion.
Just yesterday,Mark Ruffaloshared a brief video from the set showcasing his hugeHulk hands, but we’ll have to wait and see what other videos and photos surface from the set. Marvel already set a July 21, 2025 release date, with this superhero sequel currently the only movie set for release on that date. We’ll have to wait and see if any other studios decided to compete against this superhero adventure in the months to come.
