Tim Burtonis embracing social media in the promotion of his latest fantasy adventure. He jumped on hispersonal Facebook pagelast night to share the first official look at his upcoming adaptationMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. While we don’t get to see any of thecharactersyet, we do get to see the home mentioned in the title. And we get some bird symbolism. It looks like nothing but blue skies for these strange kids who are about to get a very unexpected visitor.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is based upon the best-selling novel by Ransom Riggs. We won’t get to see the movie until July 15, 2025, so a trailer may still be miles away. The movie has quite an ensemble of fan-favorite talent, lead byAsa Butterfield, who lost out on the role of Spider-Man just in the last few months. At least he has this highly anticipated project to look forward to. He will be joined on screen byKim Dickens,Eva Green,Allison Janney, Ella Purnell and the greatSamuel L. Jackson.
The unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale centers on 16-year-oldJacob, who follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive. Ransom Riggs' novel was published in 2011, followed in 2014 by a second book (in a planned trilogy), “Hollow City.” Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing under the Chernin Entertainment banner. The screenplay is by Jane Goldman.
Tim Burtonbegan shooting Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children this past March in Florida. Theproduction later movedto locations in the United Kingdom and Belgium, making it a global affair. Director Tim Burton is widely regarded as one of cinema’s most imaginative filmmakers. His many credits include the recent Big Eyes, plus Alice in Wonderland, Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.
Samuel L. Jacksonis playing a character named Barron, which is described as a ‘key role’, though we have yet to see him, and not much is known about his role in the story. In the books,Mr. Barronis a bus driver who is one of the many aliases used by Dr. Golan. Golan is a “wight” who stalked the main character Jacob Portman throughout most of his life in the novel. It isn’t known ifSamuel L. Jacksonis playing this character, or a new role created specifically for the adaptation. We’ll have to wait until we get that first trailer to find out of the legendary actor is a good or bad guy. But our money is on Barron siding with the dark side of the force.
