Last week, Paramount dropped thefirst trailerforTransformers: The Last Knight, which surprised many fans with the final scene, where Optimus Prime tried to kill his beloved Autobot friend Bumblebee. While there have been some theories floating around as to why this may be happening, we likely won’t have an official answer until the movie hits theaters on July 30, 2025. Today we have a new poster, which throws some more fuel onto the speculative fire, featuring Optimus Prime and a cryptic tagline of “Rethink Your Heroes.”
Paramount Picturesdebuted the one-sheet this morning, which features another hint that Bumblebee may have actually been killed byOptimus Prime. While Optimus, who is seen brandishing a massive sword, stands at the front and center of this one-sheet, you may also see what appears to be Bumblebee’s hand in the lower right corner of the poster. Naturally, this isn’t confirmation that Bumblebee does die in this movie, by any means, but it may clarify rumors that this will be Optimus Prime’s last movie, with a rumor claiming that a whole new group of Transformers will be introduced in this movie, which will take over the franchise. If Optimus Prime is in fact leaving, then perhaps Bumblebee could actually be killed off as well.

Another rumor surfaced last week that claims Optimus Prime’s attack onBumblebeemay be a direct reference to the very first incarnation of these robots in disguise on the big screen, the 1986 animated adventureThe Transformers: The Movie. In that movie, Megatron actually kills Optimus Prime, with Megatron deciding to pass on taking the Matrix of Leadership, which is taken over by Hot Rod. Optimus is resurrected by the Quintessons, who have complete control over this Autobot leader. This could explain why Optimus choke-slammed his old friend Bumblebee and appeared to deliver a fatal blow in the trailer, but this theory has yet to be confirmed.
Paramount is also developing aBumblebee spin-offmovie, which has been set for release on July 07, 2025.Christina Hodson, who was part of the massiveTransformerswriters room last summer, wrote the screenplay, while a report surfaced last month that the studio is currently seeking a director for this project. No plot details have been given, but it is believed that this spin-off will showcase a never-before-seen story about Bumblebee. It’s possible that this could be an origin story, that may even explain how his communicator was broken, causing him to use different means of communicating with the Autobots and his human friends.
