While this might seem like a lofty rumor considering its source, nothing is really off the table when it comes toTransformers 5.Akiva Goldsmanis leading awriters' roomthat includesDaredevil’sSteven S. DeKnight,The Walking DeadcreatorRobert Kirkmanand a host of other sci-fi and genre luminaries. They are reportedly throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks in creating a Transformers 5 thatMichael Baywill want to direct. And they are also pitching at least12 different spinoffs and crossover movies. So it seems logical that bothUltra Magnus and the Quintessonsare being considered for an appearance. Though, this could obviously change at any moment, as the script is only being hashed out, and there is no report that it is finished.

This rumor comes courtesy ofChristianToday, who point out the obvious fact thatTransformers: Age of Extinctionended withOptimus Primegoing in search of the Ancient Ones. He is on a quest to find his creators, and this report claims that the movie will stick to franchise lore in introducing the Quintessons, a bizarre and ancient race, whose dark history and shadowy machinations are bound up with the history of the Transformers, with connections to both Primus and Unicron. In the movie, they are said to hold answers in regards to the Earth invasion.

In early interviews, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura claimed that Transformers 5 will stay mostly earth bound, hinting that the main story will focus onMark Wahlberg’sCade Yeager, with Optimus' search for the Creators mostly only hinted at. That idea has reportedly changed, withMichael Baywanting a movie that is influenced and inspired by Star Wars. Huge portions of the movie are said to take place in space. And one of the new Transformers met out in the cosmos will be Ultra Magnus.

Ultra Magnus is a character fans have long wanted to see in a movie. He is said to have history with the franchise’s main villain Megatron, sometimes known as Galvatron. In Transformers lore, Magnus is Optimus Prime’s second-in-command. From the toys, to the cartoon series, and even in the comics, Ultra Magnus was always the one in charge when Optimus Prime was away on a mission. The character was killed off in the 1986 animated movie, and the matrix of leadership was passed onto Hot Rod who took up the mantel Rodimus Prime.

This unverified report goes onto claim that Transformers 5 will be used to set up some of the crossovers and spinoffs in the Transformers shared universe. One of those movies could revolve around Ultra Magnus. This rumor is also the first to state that the prequel movie about Cybertron, tentatively titledTransformers One, will be Cg-Animated and depicted a past war between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Though, remove the humans from any Transformers movie, and technically it is animated. At this time, neither directorMichael Bayor starMark Wahlbergare confirmed to return, though it is highly likely. There is nothing to indicate that they won’t be back. And it has been said thatTransformers: Age of Extinctionsets up a new trilogy, so it makes sense that it would continue Optimus Prime’s quest to find The Creators.
