Shared universes' are all the rage in Hollywood these days, with the success of theMarvel Cinematic Universespawning several similar versions. Warner Bros. will launch theirDC Comicsmovie universe next year withBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while Universal is launching theirMonsters Shared Universewith theUntitled Mummy Reboot. As it turns out, there could be the potential for yet another shared universe that would bring three completely different Hasbro properties together. While doing press forJem and the Holograms, which hits theaters tomorrow, directorJon M. Chuteased an “epic” blockbuster that would featureJem and the Holograms,TransformersandG.I. Joefranchises together, although he’s more focused on building the Jem universe right now.
“I mean, I’m a hugeTransformersfan, I would totally be down for that, but I really want to build my universe withJem- but you could have Jem,G.I. JoeandTransformerscollide - one epic blockbuster! Of course, any chance to direct a really fun movie like Transformers would be great, but right now just focused on the world that we’re creating now.”
The filmmaker previously directedG.I. Joe Retaliationin 2013, so along with this weekend’sJem and the Holograms, he does have experience in two of the three main Hasbro franchises. There is one big problem with this potential blockbuster: All three franchises are not under one studio roof. While they are all based on Hasbro properties,Jem and the Hologramsis based at Universal, while Paramount controls bothG.I. JoeandTransformers. And, while Jem may just be getting started, bothG.I. JoeandTransformersare showing no signs of slowing down.
Transformershas its slate planned out until 2025, withHasbrorecently confirmingTransformers 6,Transformers 7andTransformers 8. Paramount put together a team of writers, lead byAkiva Goldsman, to hash out ideas for sequels and spinoffs, although it isn’t known when any of these sequels may start production. DirectorMichael Bayrecently hinted that he may notdirectthe next sequel,Transformers 5, but we’ll have to wait and see.
As forG.I. Joe, screenwriterAaron Bergcame aboard in April to rewrite Jonathan Lemkin’s script forG.I. Joe 3, although the project still doesn’t have a director attached at this time.Dwayne Johnsonis expected to reprise his role fromG.I. Joe Retaliationas Roadblock, but there isn’t much else we know about the project. Would you like to see a movie featuringJem and the Holograms,TransformersandG.I. Joeall together? Could Jem’s robot Synergy be the key to destroying both Cobra and the Decepticons? We’ll have to wait and see, but for now, let us know what you think.
