The robots in disguise are coming back to the big screen next summer. Will they bemore than meets the eyethis time around? Hard to say, but they are slightly less disguised now, because the first trailer forTransformers: The Last Knighthas finally arrived. Paramount unleashed the trailer forMichael Bay’s fifth installment of the franchise and like it or not, this movie is most definitely happening.
We knew that the trailer forTransformers: The Last Knightwould be arriving before the end of the year thanks to aFacebooklive videoMichael Baydid in October. Luckily he and Paramount didn’t wait until the last minute and make it a New Year’s Eve gift for fans. Instead, they decided to get the hype train (hopefully) moving on the fifthTransformersmovie sooner rather than later. That is probably good, because everything we have heard about the movie prior to seeing this trailer has been downright baffling.
Prior to the release of this first trailer, there were very few confirmed plot details aboutTransformers: The Last Knight, but the things we heard made it seem like this movie is going to be absolutely insane, even byTransformersmovie standards. We know that it will involveKing Arthur, Merlin, Nazis and Winston Churchill, as well as the usual amount of giant transforming alien robot action. Why all of those things are required for aTransformersmovie remains to be totally seen, but this trailer does give us a better sense ofwhat to expectfrom the movie.
TheTransformersfranchise has never been a critical darling, but at least the first entry in the franchise was received lukewarmly by critics and was generally liked by fans. The series has taken a pretty steep dip in terms of quality since then. 2014’sTransformers: Age of Extinctioncurrently sits at a very poor 18 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but despite that, it managed to make $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office. To date, the series has generated just shy of $3.8 billion worldwide. So even if many people feel the movies are less than great, Paramount will continue to make them as long as they keep making that kind of money.
This installment of the franchise will bring back series starsMark Wahlberg,Tyrese Gibson,John TurturroandJosh Duhamel. They will be joined by newcomers to the seriesIsabela Moner,Anthony Hopkins, “Britain’s loneliest dog” Freya as well asPeter Cullen, who will once again provide the voice ofOptimus Prime. Can this movie right the ship and finally deliver theTransformersmovie fans have been waiting for? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, be sure to check out the first trailer forTransformers: The Last Knightbelow. The movie is set to hit theaters onJune 23, 2017.
