Throughout the first season ofSupergirlon CBS, the show often referenced Kara Zor-El’s famous cousin Superman, with the show even giving us a look at hisFortress of Solitude. We had also seen younger versions of Superman in the show, but now thatSupergirlhas shifted to The CW, we’ll finally be seeing an adult version of this hero. Today we have word that the network has castTyler Hoechlinas the Man of Steel.

DC Comicsreveals thatTyler Hoechlinwill make a two-episode appearance at the very beginning of Season 2. It isn’t known ifTyler Hoechlinhas signed on for more episodes beyond that arc inSupergirl Season 2, but we’ll have to wait and see. Here’s what executive producerAndrew Kreisberghad to say in a statement regardingTyler Hoechlin’s casting.

“Greg [Berlanti]and I have wanted to work withTylerfor ages, so this worked out perfectly becauseTylerisSuperman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

Supermanhas previously engaged withMelissa Benoist’s Girl of Steel on several occasions via instant messaging. However, so far the only glimpses we’ve seen of him have been from a distance or greatly obscured. It isn’t known when production is slated to begin onSupergirlSeason 2, but it’s possible that we may get our first look atTyler Hoechlinin the Superman costume at Comic Con next month.

Ever sinceSupergirlmoved to The CW, there has been talk of a crossover with the network’s other superhero shows,Arrow,The FlashandLegends of Tomorrow. We don’t know for sure yet if theMan of Steelwill be present in this crossover, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted with more updates.Tyler Hoechlinwas last seen on the big screen inEverybody Wants Some, and he is best known for his work on the small screen in MTV’sTeen Wolf.
