A new image from the upcoming adaptation of popular video gameUnchartedhas Tom Holland’s young explorer Nathan Drake fiercely telling Mark Wahlberg’s boomer Victor Sullivan how to use his phone. The movie, which sees the pair head off on a globe-trotting adventure on the hunt for a lost treasure, will no doubt see Holland and Wahlberg’s characters bicker and butt heads a whole lot as their mentor-mentee relationship slowly evolves.

Based on one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time,Unchartedtells the story of Nathan Drake as he embarks on his first adventure alongside rival-turned-partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan. StarringTom Hollandas Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as the quick-witted, wise-cracking Sully,Unchartedwill introduce audiences to the duo of explorers as Nathan Drake becomes the treasure hunter fans know and love while unraveling one of history’s greatest mysteries and treasures in an action-adventure epic that spans the globe.

Zombieland: Double Tapdirector Ruben Fleischer is at the helm of this big-screen adaptation, with the script coming from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The movie will reportedly serve as a prequel to the video game series, telling Drake’s origin story in this action-adventure epic that spans the globe, with the two heading off in dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother. Starring alongside Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe Frazer, a fellow fortune hunter who is Nate’s love interest, and Tati Gabrielle as Braddock, withAntonio Banderason board as the movie’s villain, a ruthless treasure hunter.

Uncharted’sjourney to the big screen has been almost as dramatic as any of Nathan Drake’s escapades, with the movie having been on the cards for so long that Mark Wahlberg was originally due to play Drake rather than Sully. Of course, time took its toll, with the Transformers star now playing the much older Sully, but it seems that time had no effect on the actor’s intimidation factor.

“When we went to set for the first time, I saw Mark Wahlberg [who plays mentor figure Sully], and Mark is massive. He is a unit,” Holland said of meeting his co-star. “I was in good shape, but I wasn’t by any means big.” After the set was temporarily shut down due to the ongoing global situation, Holland used the time to put on as much bulk as possible, with the actor not wanting to look a child next to the much burlier Wahlberg. “We went home for five months, all I did was eat and train, eat and train, eat and train – to put a bit of timber on, to make me look not like a child next to Mark.”

Unchartedis scheduled to be released in movie theaters by Sony Pictures Releasing in the United States on August 14, 2025, having been delayed over, and over, and over again since all the way back in 2016. This comes to us fromTotal Film.
