Back in 2014, the hit seriesVeronica Marsreturned on the big screen with a new movie that featured the full cast of the hit series. The cast also returned with aweb seriescalledPlay It Again, Dick, and now it seems that series creatorRob Thomasis bringing the cast back together for a six-episode revival that will air on Netflix. Here’s whatRob Thomashad to say, while promotingiZombieat the TCA Winter Tour last week.
“Kristenand I both want to figure out some way we could do a six-episodeVeronica Mars mystery. If I were a betting man, I bet that it will happen. I just don’t know when it will be.”
There are a few roadblocks standing in the way of this newVeronica Mars seriescoming to fruition. First off,Kristen Bellcurrently stars in NBC’s hit sitcomThe Good Place, which wrapped up its first season last week and is expected to be renewed, although an official announcement has not been made.Rob Thomasalso revealed that he’s working onThe Lost BoysTV series, so they have to find a window when everyone is available. Here’s what he had to say below.
“We need to find a window where we could both do it. When actors are on network shows, most standard contracts will give them outs for, like, one episode a year of guest-starring. But then there are also sometimes outs if you’re doing something that is non-competitive. Would NBC consider aVeronica Marsthing on, like, Netflix non-competitive? We have not figured that out yet. Also, I’m developingLost Boys. If those things weren’t happening, we might be closer to aVeronica Mars[continuation].The Good Place, I think, is going to be on NBC for a while. And ifLost Boysgoes, finding that window will be tricky. But we both want to do it.”
TheVeronica Mars moviewas produced after it raised $5.7 million on Kickstarter through their record-breaking crowd funding campaign. Warner Bros. distributed the movie, but it was only released in 347 theaters through its brief six-week run, where it pulled in just $3.3 million. It isn’t clear if the rest of theVeronica Marscast will return, such as Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Daran Norris (Cliff McCormack), Francis Capra (Eli “Weevil” Navarro), Kyle Gallner (Cassidy “Beaver” Casablancas) and Christopher B. Duncan (Clarence Wiedman). Hopefully we’ll have more updates on this potentialVeronica Marsrevival soon.
