Including Krypto the Superdog was a pleasant surprise; it made the trailer’s opening moments, leaving audiences wanting more. We will give some love to Krypto and touch on why the powered-up-pooch is the perfect addition, and a very important one, to James Gunn’s visions for the DCEU.

The Best Part of the Superman Trailer Is Also the Most Important

It is hard for the pet parent out there not to swoon over the inclusion of Krypto into the DCEU cinematic universe. While we got an entertaining glimpse of the super-furry companions inDC League of Super-Pets,this will be the first time one of the adorable, powerful pets makes its way to a blockbuster live-action feature. Why does this adorable opening to the Superman trailer also stand as its most important? Appearing besidecharacters like Guy Gardner, the inclusion of Krypto shows that Gunn’s vision for DC will lean more into its strengths; a rich history that has iconic characters rubbing shoulders with silly ones.

The DC movies have failed to make notable ground in the same way as their MCU counterparts, struggling to find a consistent identity that they could bring to the bank. A surprise hit likeShazam!followed up with a disastrous sequel, or the tonal difference between productions like Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey has created a confused franchise with no mainline movies successfully holding the audience’s attention. For James Gunn to successfully revamp the DCEU, he has to deliver a consistent vision across all of his filmsand rebuild a confused cinematic universe before being given the freedom to mess around with it again.

Are we saying that including Krypto guarantees that the upcoming ‘Gods and Monsters’ story arc the DCEU plans are starting things off on the right paw? Not necessarily; that remains to be seen, and Krypto is not necessarily a ‘funny hero.’ However, the Kryptonain doggo is undoubtedly used more lightheartedly in the comics and will likely see the same treatment on the screen. We don’t necessarily expect dog fart jokes, but training a dog with superpowers is sure to bring some levity andhumanity to Clark Kentas we learn how he is going to be re-introduced into the DCEU. Plus, it’s clear the fans are already loving it

Krypto Is One Amazing Super Dog

Who’s a good super dog? Krypto is a good super dog! A dog’s nature instantly brings a sense of loyalty and undying friendship, making the mighty pooch a perfect companion to Superman and reflective of his trust in humanity. While Clark Kent can become a regular person to blend in, having a dog that can keep up with him has always led to many heartwarming interactions throughout the comics.Krypto has often brought humor into the comics while standing up for his owner when he is most needed; he is the perfect character for eithera superhero comedyor a more serious exploration of who the Man of Steel is.

Of course, Krypto is not the only super pet to come out of DC. Supergirl had Streaky the Super-Cat and Comet the Super-Horse, though the latter’s bizarre history means he is best left in the past (viaAtomic Junk Comics). Superman also had a super-monkey in Beppo. Yet above all others,Krypto has remained resilient, being the best doggo a Kryptonian can have. Created by Otto Binder and Curt Swan as a one-off character in his appearance in Adventure Comics #210 in 1955, Krypto’s longevity and subsequent fandom show the dog has the power to resonate with the audience on the big screen.
