Most actors working today would kill to be part of one major franchise.Jeremy Renneris lucky enough to be part of two. He is currently playingHawkeyeinThe Avengersmovies, in addition to showing up from time to time in other Marvel Cinematic Universe adventures, as well as playing Brandt in theMission: Impossiblefranchise alongsideTom Cruise. Unfortunately for him, one franchise may be keeping him from the other in the near future.
The actor recently spoke with Collider about his latest movieArrival. At the end of the interview, he was asked about the status of bothAvengers: Infinity WarandMission: Impossible 6. He seemed very optimistic and enthused aboutAvengers, but also noted that because of scheduling, his participation inMission: Impossible 6isn’t a sure thing at this point. Here is what he had to say.
“M:I 6, I’m not sure what’s happening. I know they (the Mission: Impossible 6 producers) really want to get it going and having spoken to Tom about where it’s at I know there might be some conflict with schedules, I’m not sure what’s going to happen. Avengers is going to eat up a lot of next year, I certainly hope it doesn’t ultimately get in the way of Tom and I and the gang getting back together for that because I’d love to.”
Jeremy Rennerhas played Brandt in the last twoMission: Impossible movies,Brad Bird’sMission: Impossible - Ghost ProtocolandChristopher McQuarrie’sMission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. Both of these movies were considered high marks for the long-running franchise and even if he wasn’t the main reason,Jeremy Rennerwas part of what made both movies work so well. Paramount likely won’t want to mess with the winning formula, so they will probably do anything they can to haveJeremy Rennerreturn.
Despite the desire forJeremy Rennerto return forMission: Impossible 6, the franchise could find a way to move on without him. It seems much less conceivable thatAvengers: Infinity Warand the untitledAvengers 4, which will shoot back to back over the course of next year, could get by without Hawkeye. Not to say that a bow and arrow is going to do much good against the likes of the Mad Titan known as Thanos, but he is a central character in the franchise.Mission: Impossible 6is going to have to shoot next year to make its summer 2018 release date work, so it all depends on just how much Hawkeye is in both of these newAvengersmovies and how his shooting schedule works out.
Rebecca Fergusonis reportedly set to reprise her role fromMission: Impossible Rogue Nation, which makes sense given that her character was one of the highlights of the movie for many. Save forTom Cruise, who recently settled a contract dispute so he could get paid more money this time around, no other cast members have been confirmed for the movie. Also returning forMission: Impossible 6is directorChristopher McQuarrie. That will become the first director to have ever directed back-to-backMission: Impossiblemovies.Mission: Impossible 6is currently set for release on July 02, 2025.
