A Quiet Place: Day Oneis poised to have a successful run at the box office so, unsurprisingly, its chances of the prequel receiving its own follow-up are beginning to look fairly bright. In fact, writer/director Michael Sarnoski has toldThe Hollywood Reporterthat he believes a sequel to the prequel is most likely on the way. Sarnoski, who also helmed the fantasticPig, elaborated on how the rather dourDay Onecould see its narrative continued:

I mean, definitely a good portion of those people [who survive the events of Day One] probably ended up on the island that we see in Part Two of A Quiet Place. I think there’s a good chance that they’re there, and definitely there’s a good chance we’re going to see them again. I just think they did an incredible job. And I think Paramount would be really happy to see where they ended up. I don’t think there are any super-specific plans. But I would not be surprised if that happens. So that’s a very loose, unofficial sequel tease.

A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place: Day One is a spin-off of the A Quiet Place franchise conceived by John Krasinski. The film is set at the beginning of the invasion as humanity scrambles to survive, before the events of the original film, with Lupita Nyong’O leading the cast, directed by Michael Sarnoski.

A Quiet Place: Day Oneprimarily ties into the coreQuiet Placeseries via the inclusion of the sequel’s Djimon Hounsou. But, Hounsou’s character, the leader of the aforementioned people on the island, doesn’t survive the events ofA Quiet Place Part II. So, while he wouldn’t be in the officially announcedA Quiet Place Part III, he could ostensibly be in a film that takes place betweenDay OneandPart II.

How Did Day One Do On Day One?

Given the factA Quiet Place: Day Onescored a superb $22.5 million on Friday, and its budget is a reasonable $67.5, it’s quite safe to assume the prequel will be as profitable for Paramount Pictures as the two films that preceded it. Or, in terms of franchise timeline, followed it. Plus, it received a B+ CinemaScore, which is equal to the first film and only slightly below the sequel.

In other words, it should possess the staying power at the box office that those other two had, resulting in a final domestic tally over three times its debut weekend total. Just how high will that debut weekend be? Over $50 million, that’s for sure, so one can expect a final domestic tally of around $175 million. Not shabby at all for a horror film, even if it is one that’s benefiting from a decent budget and its existence as a part of an established IP.

A Quiet Place: Day One’s Lord of the Rings Easter Eggs Explained by Director & Star

Parallels between A Quiet Place: Day One and Lord of the Rings seem to extend beyond just names.

Will the sequel to the prequel retain any ofDay One’s cast members, or will it again change the leads? It’s hard to say, but right now theA Quiet Placefranchise is three for three and the sky seems to be the limit for its future prospects. But, since franchise creator John Krasinski hand-picked Sarnoski and he knocked it out of the park, it stands to reason he’ll be asked to return for either the next prequel, or the third mainline installment.
