William Shatnerhas always had the ability to turn a fan comment into a viral social media post. This talent was fully on display when the Star Trek legend responded to a complaint online thatStar Trekdoesn’t have its own “day” likeStar Wars. In his short reply, Shatner managed to praise and promote the love ofStar Trekamong its fans, and troll Star Wars at the same time. Check out his post below.
Of course the tweet gained lot of love and support from the former Captain Kirk’s followers, and it seems that to them his opinion is pretty much spot on. While May 4th has become “Star WarsDay” for its play on words appeal, the day does usually bring an array ofStar Warstreats, whether in the forms of TV specials, news of forthcoming movies and toy and games releases. However,Star Trekdoesn’t go completely without their own events.

Paramount have recently been doing their ownStar TrekDay celebration, which last year landed on September 8 and was a globally live-streamed event that included a number of big announcements, trailer reveals and more. This event is similar to theStar WarsCelebration event, which itself is separate from those who choose to celebrate May 4 asStar WarsDay. In the end, as Shatner said, there is enough love ofStar Trekto be shared all year round, which is also true of theStar Warsfranchise, so perhaps single days are not that important in the grand scheme of things.

William Shatner Is Still a Big Part of the Star Trek Fandom
While the world ofStar Trekhas moved on sincethe first time Captain Kirk stepped outonto the bridge of the Enterprise, he has never allowed himself to fall too far away from the franchise. As the original Captain, Shatner always holds a place in the hearts of fans who have been along for the ride since the early days of show almost 60 years ago.
To prove that point, Shatner recently sat down to discuss his history with the series and his role as Kirk, which turned into an hours long chat that will be released by the Gene Roddenberry Archive. InWilliam Shatner: Reflections on the End of an Era, Shatner took time to delve into his long history with theStar Trekfranchise, including some of his choice opinions on what should and shouldn’t be considered Star Trek canon.
While he has often clashed with some of hisold colleagues such as George Takei, the one thing that is clear is that there are few people who love being part of theStar Trekmythology than William Shatner. If that means that he sometimes gets a little over passionate about it, then that seems to be fine with him and the fans who are happy to go along with him for the ride.
