Earlier this month, 20th Century Fox finally unveiled that the official title forWolverine 3isLogan, while releasing thefirst poster. Many fans noticed thatWolverine’s hands were scarred, which is quite unusual since his mutant healing powers don’t leave scars. Now that the first trailer has been released, directorJames Mangoldfinally spoke about Wolverine’s new scars.
Many fans believed that this story will be based on theOld Man Logancomics, but it was never confirmed. After theLogantitle was released, a number of cryptic photos started to surface on various social media accounts, the last of which showed Logan’s scarred face.Empirecaught up with directorJames Mangold, who revealed exactly why they gave Logan scars in this movie, for the first time in franchise history. Here’s what he had to say below.

“One of the things we all thought about as we worked on this film is, well, we don’t want to rebuild everything. We want to have some questions. In order to make a different Logan, and a different tone of aWolverine movie, we felt like we couldn’t hold on to every tradition established in all the movies religiously, or we’d be trapped by the decisions made before us. So we questioned whether Logan’s healing factor causes him to heal without even a scar. We imagined that it may have when he was younger, but with age, he’s getting older and ailing. Perhaps his healing factor no longer produces baby-soft skin. So we imagined he heals quickly, still, but it leaves a scar. The simple idea was that his body would start to get a little more ravaged with a kind of tattooing of past battles, lacerations that remain of previous conflicts.”
The previous photos revealed through social media featuredStephen Merchant’s Caliban,Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and one of the Reavers, played byStephen Dunlevy. There have also been a slew of cryptic images featuring various locations around El Paso, Texas, and what is believed to be a glimpse at the comic book character Arcade. One of the most prominent rumors includes the involvement of an iconic mutant namedX-23.

The cast also includesBoyd Holbrookas the villainousDonald Pierce, along withRichard E. As of now, this mutant adventure will go up against Lionsgate’s dramaThe Shack. Now that the trailer is released, hopefully we’ll have more details about the plot ofLogansoon. While we wait for more details, we also have a new black and white trailer, along with new trailer photos, and, in case you missed it, the first trailer that debuted earlier today.
