The story behindWolverine 3is shrouded inmystery. We’ve heard various rumors that it will and won’t be based on the Old Man Logan comic book arc. What we know for a fact is that it will beHugh Jackman’s final turn at playing the indestructible mutant Logan. We also know that it will featurePatrick Stewartreprising his role as Charles Xavier (akaProfessor X) in what has been called a co-starring role. Now, we know something else about the movie. The main root of the plot will be firmly centered around these two long-standingMarvel charactersand theirrelationshipto one another.
Speaking withCollider,Hugh Jackmanhas decided to open up just a tiny bit about his final Wolverine sequel. He says that a full treatment has been finished, and that about an hour’s worth ofscriptis complete. It will be a special outing for longtime fans, as he brings the entire enterprise to a close with the help of directorJames Mangold, who helmed the previous installmentThe Wolverine.Hugh Jackmanhad this to say.
“I’ll be really honest with you, the actual script in its full form we’re up to about Page 60. Obviously there’s a treatment, so it’s not fully done yet, we’re not fully there. Patrick does figure in it that’s for sure. I think it’s a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas.”
While bothX-Men: ApocalypsestarsMichael FassbenderandJames McAvoyhave stated that they would like to continue on with the roles of Magneto and Professor X following this latest sequel, Wolverine 3 will more than likely mark the last time we seePatrick Stewartin the role of Charles Xavier. So it’s nice to see him get more than just a cameo. The two characters have had a strong friendship, both in the comic books and on the big screen, so it will be nice to see a different, more intimate side of that being shown.
Despite how oftenHugh Jackmanand others deny it, rumors that Old Man Logan will serve as the basis for Wolverine 3’s main plot persist. Some believe we’ll be getting a loose adaption of Mark Millar’s iconic tale. Which would have to be the case, since Marvel Studios and Disney own a great number of the characters that appear in this particular comic book. Some believe that Xavier could take over Hawkeye’s role. In the original story, Logan needs money to pay rent to his landlords. He accepts a job from a now-blind Hawkeye and helps him travel east to the capital of New Babylon, and deliver a secret package (which Logan assumes to be drugs). What do you think?
